Historical Society examines ‘One Room Schoolhouses’

Did your school have running water? Was the bathroom inside? Was your teacher in charge of heating the room? Surely we jest! No!

Come out and hear the tales and experiences of students who attended some of Hilltown’s one room schools on Sunday, May 5th as the Historical Society of Hilltown Township hosts an Open House at the c1800s Strassburger Farmstead, 407 Keystone Drive and Bethlehem Pike in Sellersville, from 1:30 to 4:00pm.

The presentation on one Room Schoolhouses will take place at 2:00pm. The schools typically contained one teacher instructing eight grades at once!

This practice ended in the early 1950s, when Margaret Seyler Elementary School took the place of nine separate one room schoolhouses.

Old Hilltown school memorabilia will be on display. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
