Are you new to Medicare? Pennsylvania Medicare Education and Decision Insight

PA MEDI can help

Pennsylvania Medicare Education and Decision Insight, PA MEDI, is a free, unbiased Medicare counseling and educational program housed at the Bucks County Area Agency on Aging. PA MEDI is the name for the SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) Program in PA.

All PA MEDI Counselors are certified by the PA Department of Aging and are available to provide accurate answers to your Medicare questions! Are you new to Medicare?

PA MEDI Counselors can explain all parts of Medicare, how they work, and define enrollment periods to avoid penalties. Medicare eligibility begins at age 65 or the 25th month of Social Security Disability. Medicare Part A provides Hospital Coverage and Part B provides Medical Coverage.

Medicare Part A is prepaid through taxes collected from 40 + quarters of wages. Medicare Part B has a monthly premium of $164.90 per month in 2023.

People with low income and assets may qualify for the Medicare Savings Program for assistance paying the Part B premium. Most Medicare beneficiaries choose additional coverage through a Medicare Advantage Plan or a Medicare Supplement/Medigap Plan. Research and timing are crucial when choosing either of these plan options.

Medicare Part D is prescription drug coverage. People with low income and assets may qualify for extra help to receive assistance with prescription drug costs.

PA residents aged 65 or older may also qualify for PACE/PACENET for assistance paying for prescription drugs. PA MEDI Counselors are available throughout the year to explain and review your personal Medicare plan options.

This will enable you make educated decisions when choosing the coverage to best meet your individual health needs and budget! Please call today to ask a question, schedule a personalized counseling session, or arrange a Group Educational Presentation!
