Spotlight: Hibernian High School Rugby

“The Hibernians are actively recruiting girls and boys from seventh to 12th grade to play rugby. We are looking for all skill levels, and the best part about rugby is that the entire team plays defense and offense, any player can score.”

Practices will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00pm-8:00pm at their home pitch (field) at Falls Township Community Park, 9125 Mill Creek Road, Levittown. The club is concentrated in developing a strong organization in all aspects of rugby.

Hibernian Boys High School Rugby has been a tradition since its founding in 1987 by Chris Castner, the Girls club was founded in 2003 by Mark Marseglia.

“Girls as well as boys can find success in rugby, we have a player named Sofiya Abel, who has been around rugby her whole life. She started with Yardley-Makefield rookie rugby when she was six, she has been playing with Yardley for seven years.”

“This past fall was her first year of high school tackle rugby. She goes to Armstrong Middle School, and will be going to Truman this fall. Sofiya also participated in a rugby at Saranac Lake Can Am Rugby Tournament. She is looking forward making the most of her rugby experience.”

There are many benefits to competitive rugby:

  • Improves physical health – You will get a workout playing this dynamic, fast-moving sport.
  • Develops social skills – Playing with a diverse group of kids in a team environment promotes intra-group communication, and builds lifelong friendships.
  • Builds character – Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but you will always play hard!
  • Respect – All Hibernians learn to respect themselves and others on and off the field.
  • Positive role models – Hibernians are an organization loaded with great role models, both players and coaches.
