What shingle is the right shingle for me?

When it’s time to have your roof replaced, there is frequently confusion with all the material types and components. You can get lost in the details and find it intimidating to ask questions for fear of taking too much of the salesman’s time or looking foolish. How do you choose a roof shingle without breaking the bank?

There are many factors to consider when choosing the right shingle: What kind of a budget you are working with? What is the aesthetic appearance you are trying to attain? What type of warranties should you have for the roof to protect you from future costly repairs? How many of the upgrades are needed to get a quality roof?

The manufacturers usually make very similar products. It is better to go with a manufacturer that has name recognition as opposed to a generic company. There are some variations in the appearance and the thickness of a shingle which will dramatically affect the price. Shingles go from simple and basic (25 year 3-tab) to extravagant (synthetic slate and designer shingles). Many houses being built today are having an architectural shingle installed.

Lastly, the warranty for the shingles may vary depending on the company installing them. Every shingle comes with a basic material warranty that is pro-rated. Every year that shingle is on your house it loses value, and the warranty usually doesn’t cover things like labor, accessories, or trash disposal. Upgraded warranties can be offered by the manufacturer depending on the installation company and their accreditation by that manufacturer.

Educating yourself before the salesman arrives will always help you to make the right choice. Contact C and C Family Roofing and Siding today, a licensed and certified roofing contractor, and we can help you discuss the options. Call 215-999-6248 or visit www.roofdoc.com.
