It is often said the connection between food and wine is infinite and timeless; and, no one holds that relationship with more reverence than the Italians.
The path Altomonte’s has travelled over the years, from their humble beginnings as a corner butcher shop in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood, all the way to their current status being one of the country’s foremost authentic and diversified Italian Specialty Markets, has always been one of growth. However, the family owners at Altomonte’s take a unique approach to their company’s growth. With each and every step they take outwardly, they reach deeper and deeper down into their rootstock. They have an unwavering conviction in this mindset. Everything must be firmly balanced.
Having become synonymous with the highest quality in homemade foods, scratch-made desserts, their award-winning Old World style delicatessen, and world class butcher shop, Altomonte’s knew there was one vital component missing…Wine. And to further specify that…Italian Wine.
They set out to create the state’s premier Italian wine portfolio, which would be quite a tall order. But, if you know Altomonte’s, they do not do anything half-heartedly. They demand the best of themselves, and that is patently clear when you walk through one of their markets. They went out and found a fully certified Sommelier, who is also an Italian wine expert and ambassador. They immediately tasked him with making their vision become reality.
What started out as perhaps twenty labels has now become a formidable selection of over 300. Altomonte’s now has a robust Wine Club full of loyal members with its own private email list, Wine Classes & Food Pairings, and a slew of special Tastings showcasing some of Italy’s top producers.
And now…they’ve upped the ante a step further. They have just opened Enoteca Wine Bar at the Doylestown location, and the star of the show is their new, cutting-edge Enomatic wine dispenser, allowing customers to explore various wines from their portfolio at their own pace. The customer will be in total control of the experience.
Altomonte’s has two locations in Bucks County. Doylestown at 856 North Easton Road, 215-489-8889 and Warminster at 85 North York Road, 215-672-5439.
