Nick Bordner (left), a member of the Lower Southampton Veterans Advisory Council (VAC), displays a special commendation received from the Playwicki Farm Foundation for his organization’s work in providing information about benefits and services available to area veterans. Making the presentation is Rose McMenamin, (center) president of the farm foundation, while Ray Weldie (right) a Lower Southampton Township supervisor looks on.
The award was presented at the 110-acre historic farm located at 2350 Bridgetown Pike in Feasterville during one of its Second Friday Open House events. Throughout the year the VAC collects tattered American flags and retires them in a special Flag Day ceremony.
They additionally conduct a Veterans Day program honoring all who have served including those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Also, they run annual musters to provide additional support and partner with the Travis Manion Foundation to bring their 5K benefit race to Lower Southampton Township.
This year’s 5k Run will be held on Saturday, September 10th, 9:00am, at Russell E. Elliot Park, 150 Buck Road in Feasterville-Trevose, and will be followed by a food truck rally and family fun event beginning at 10:00am. Bordner and Weldie are U.S. Army veterans.
