At ECI Comfort in Langhorne, our goal is to provide our community with comfort solutions and energy savings. With high gas and oil prices along with general inflation, we want to take this opportunity to provide some Comfort/Energy Savings Tips to get you through the rest of summer.
Tip #1: Close the blinds. According to the DOE, about 76% of sunlight that hits windows enters the home as heat. Not only does this heat up your thermostat, but it directly warms you up, too. As a result of closing the blinds, you won’t have to keep the temperature as low, and you will save money.
Tip #2: Use a fan. Using a ceiling fan (or even a standing fan) can help cool down the room and allow you to raise your thermostat setting up to four degrees with no reduction in comfort.
Tip #3: Use correct thermostat placement. Thermostats should be placed on interior walls away from direct sunlight, doorways, skylights, and windows, if possible. If you put it next to a hot window, for example, it will kick on more than necessary and waste energy.
Tip #4: Change your AC filters. Clean or change your filters about once a month. Not only will this improve your indoor air quality, but it will make your system more efficient. That means the house will cool down more quickly and you will save money on energy.
Tip #5: Seal leaks. This DIY project is sure to increase your comfort and save energy. Check the inside and outside of your home for cracks and openings where air can flow through. You can also stand outside your home and run your hand around the windows and doors to see if you feel cold air. If you do, caulk around leaky windows and add insulation around doors.
