Continuing a Bucks County tradition ‘40 ART 2022’

After purchasing Phoenix Art Supplies and Framing in January of 2022 from Margaret Matheson, it was important for Jenny Schaeffer (former framing manager of the shop), to continue the annual 40 ART Show as a longstanding Bucks County tradition.

40 ART is about making art accessible and democratic, both for the artist and the buying public. It is about networking for the local art community, bringing artists and buyers together. It’s about supporting new artists and new buyers. And mostly it’s about having fun with other art-minded people at a casual event during the dogdays of summer.

40 ART is open to anyone who wishes to participate, and every work of art submitted is accepted and displayed anonymously. The show is for small 5” x 7” works, in any medium. Submissions are being accepted from July 1st – 9th. All artwork is priced at $40.

The anonymity allows purchasers to focus on the art they like, equalizes the footing of every artist, and makes exhibiting less threatening for first timers. Professional artists (some internationally renowned) also contribute to support the local art community and their independently owned art store. Only after a buyer has purchased a piece, is the artist revealed.

Hundreds of artists and art appreciators have participated for over 20 years. Since 2020, 40 ART kicks off virtually. The show can be accessed from anywhere at www.40art.live beginning Friday, July 29th at 7:00pm, until Saturday, July 30th at midnight. Purchases can be made online.

All are welcome to attend the closing of the show on Sunday, July 31st, from noon to 4:00pm to socialize, enjoy refreshments, and pickup pre-purchased artwork, or purchase any pieces that remain. Phoenix Art Supplies is located at 1810 S. Easton Road, Doylestown. For more info visit 40art.phoenixartsupplies.com or call 215-345-0980.
