The Warrington Lions Club, a local service organization, recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Central Bucks South/Middle Bucks Institute of Technology graduating student Jamie Hennigan of Chalfont. Jamie graduated in May with a 3.5 grade point average and will pursue a degree in Exercise Science/Pre-Physical Therapy at East Stroudsburg University in the fall.
At the Lions Club meeting on May 26th, Jamie shared the story of her adoption as an infant from Guatemala and her vision of helping others through a career in physical therapy. Her mother, Kate, a single parent and child of a large family, wanted a sibling for her young daughter and welcomed Jamie into their lives. Jamie reflected on the generosity of her birth mother in wanting her to have a better life than would have been possible in Guatemala. Now, Jamie hopes to give to others.
“As I look forward to all that lies ahead, my dreams of attending college and hopes of working in the medical field are within reach,” Jamie shared. “I am excited to imagine a career that allows me to give back to others, like those who have given so much to me. It is my desire to use my profession to touch communities and individuals who are less fortunate and have the greatest of need.”
The Warrington Lions Club is a branch of Lions Clubs International – the largest service organization in the world. The Lions have been an important part of the Warrington community since 1941. In collaboration with Warrington Township, the Warrington Lions donated $180,000 and helped raise nearly $2 million to create Lions Pride Park, an intergenerational, fully accessible park located at Folly and Bradley Roads in Warrington that opened in October 2020. All (100%) of the money raised from the public goes to charitable causes, and most of that (80%) stays right in Bucks County. Members of the community are invited to support the local Lions Club by supporting its events, making a gift, and/or becoming a member. Find out more at www.warringtonlions.org.
