Spotlight: Fanny Chapman Pool

Celebrates its 95th anniversary ‘Teaching the Community to Swim’

Fanny Chapman Memorial Swimming Pool was opened in 1927 with the simple notion that children should have a place to swim.

Since its inception, countless youth and adults alike have benefited from this opportunity.

Today, the pool is busier than ever, with generation after generation of children learning to swim, competing with swim and dive teams, and simply enjoying a summer day.

With the help of the Doylestown community, Fanny Chapman Pool has been able to perpetuate these traditions for over 95 years.

From its humble beginnings in 1927 the Fanny Chapman Memorial Pool Complex now boasts five swimming pools, memberships for families and individuals of all ages, and offers swim lessons to more than 750 children a summer.

Furthermore, it is the home to one of the largest and most successful competitive swimming and diving programs in Buck’s County.

Although owned by the Borough of Doylestown, Fanny Chapman Memorial Pool still today remains financially independent using no tax dollars for membership or program operations and therefore no membership residency requirements.

In 2016 a Pool Endowment Fund was established to help with the ongoing capital expenses of maintaining the facilities.

Whether it’s purchasing a commemorative Walkway Brick, a contribution, or including us in your estate planning, your support is always appreciated.

Your tax-deductible contributions allow Board of Managers to continue the legacy of William and Martha Mercer who founded our current swimming and diving complex.

If you would like to become an active part of Fanny Chapman’s future, please contact Jim Foster, Pool Manager, the Borough Office, or a member of the Board of Managers.
