As the summer of 2022 approaches, everyone is looking forward to warm weather, taking vacation, and summer fun.
After navigating two and a half years of mandates, facility closings, social-distancing and dodging Covid-19, life is finally returning to some semblance of normal.
Fanny Chapman Pool is one of those summer destinations looking to return to normal operation this season.
Weathering the onset of Covid-19 in the summer of 2020 Fanny Chapman’s Board made the decision to open with modified membership, programs, scheduling and rigorous cleaning routines and in doing so was one of the few swimming pool complexes to open.
Not only did they stay open but did so in such a manner that they received a proclamation from the Mayor and the Doylestown Borough Council for their management and safe practices.
Jim Foster, Pool Manager, vividly remembers the amount of planning that went into the 2020 season.
As of March 1st, the FC Board was not sure the swim complex would even be allowed to open. It was mid-May before guidelines were issued by the CDC and the Health Department for outdoor facilities.
As of June 1st the Board was informed that to open an operational plan needed to be submitted to the Health Department for approval. The plan had to comply with current mandated guidelines.
Masking and 6ft social distancing were a must.
The original 2020 operational plan that took months to formulate now became a 10-day management project.
On June 10th the Board submitted its operational plan to open and the pool complex opened June 27th to attendance by reservation and social-distance swimming.
Now, after the revival of programs and membership last year, 2022 looks to be a return to the expected level of swim lessons, competitive swimming and general recreational fun.
