    SPOTLIGHT: The Birches at Newtown

A vibrant community with vibrant residents

Deborah was born in Argentina residing there until she was 16 years old. “It was a wonderful place to grow up,” she recalled.

There, she was educated in both English and Spanish. Her father worked for General Motors, and her family relocated back to the U.S. during her junior year of high school.

Deborah is trilingual since she can speak French too. She loves everything about France and studied the language and culture throughout high school and at Mount Holyoke College.

Her knowledge of the romance languages found her working for the government as a linguist and translator.

She later married and had nine children. When her youngest was in kindergarten, Deborah switched careers and returned to school to become a computer programmer.

“The work was challenging, not many women were in the field, but it was a fulfilling job. I enjoyed it,” she explained.

Deborah enjoys traveling and has visited many countries.

Her family once lived in Australia for two years, and she has taken her 20 grandchildren to Paris over the years! She now calls The Birches at Newtown home.

Her vibrant lifestyle is much appreciated here, where Deborah is an active member of the community.

Deborah enjoys The Birches’ activities program, especially trivia. “I love activities that engage the mind,” she noted. She even keeps fluent in Spanish, holding conversations with several employees.

She frequents FOX exercise classes and has the opportunity to work one-on-one with physical and occupational therapists to help maintain mobility and independence through the FOX Optimal Living Program.

Deborah can enjoy retirement at The Birches while receiving extra assistance when she needs it. “Everyone here is wonderful; the staff is so helpful. I’d recommend The Birches to anyone!”
