Spotlight: Congregation Brothers of Israel

Congregation Brothers of Israel (CBOI) is a modern conservative synagogue located in Newtown that serves Bucks and Mercer Counties, including Newtown, Doylestown, Yardley, Lower Makefield, Langhorne, and Richboro.

CBOI is a growing and inclusive egalitarian congregation that enriches and enjoys Jewish life together. We have Friday night and Saturday morning services, lively discussions and interesting programs and speakers presented by Men’s Club, to Sisterhood book Reviews, Adult Education programs, the weekly Talmud class, The Jewish Book Council book reviews featuring the authors themselves including Q & A sessions.

We recognize the power of our new online community we created during the COVID pandemic because it has allowed people who are ill or unable to be with us in person due to weather conditions, to continue to be involved.

Safety guidelines have been taken to ensure re-opening in the safest way according to the current rules and regulations and CDC policy. We are constantly prepared to adapt and change.

The Rabbi Howard Hersch Religious School at CBOI offers outstanding and affordable Jewish Education to our children. The annual school tuition s $360. Per child (K-10). Students continue to benefit from weekly virtual classes, and Sunday classes in person classes, as well as individual tutoring for Bar/Bat Mitzvah students who are then able to conduct Friday night and Saturday morning services.

We are constantly reaching out to the community around us. Our members, both children and adults recently volunteered at the JRA to box food and distribute them to families in need. We have donated to the Trenton Soup kitchen, The Penndel Foodbank and the Philadelphia Mitzvah Food Pantry. We also collect children’s books to donate to the Book Smiles program.

We are currently offering a three-part online Genealogy class.

Visit our website at CBOI.org to further explore our community.
