DAR celebrates founding with ‘Day of Service’

October 11th is a special date for the Daughters of the American Revolution.

It was on this day in 1890 that the DAR was officially founded. Every year every chapter honors our founding members with a Day of Service in their local community.

The Bucks County Chapter of the DAR chose to clean historic gravestones some of which were Patriots of the American Revolution. Tina Nunn, a Junior member, organized this event with the Beechwood Cemetery in Bensalem after she researched how to clean old gravestones safely.

Five members joined Tina to spend their Sunday afternoon cleaning gravestones and all were surprised to see the names and dates suddenly appear.

If you are interested in learning more about the DAR or if you have a Patriot visit www.BuckscountyDAR.org.
