Pack 99 is made of boys and girls in kindergarten through fifth grade who attend Sol Feinstone, Newtown, and Wrightstown Elementary Schools, as well as St. Andrew’s School.
Among the members of Cub Scout Pack 99 are Lydia and Jack Ciccimaro, Declan Sullivan, Bennett Szathmary, Cathal McDermott, Peyton Chung, Nolan Barrientos, Brady Cottrell, Luke Filmore, and Emily, Billy and Annabelle McGettigan.
The Scouts are very excited about their success and proud of themselves. Fourth grader, Billy McGettigan, said, “Scouting for Food makes me feel so good! I look at all of the donated food and imagine the people eating it, and enjoying it, and feeling happy and full. I don’t know how there can still be hunger with all of the neighbors that want to help.”
The children canvassed their neighborhoods collecting food and many volunteered outside of McCaffrey’s Market in Newtown on November 13th collecting food and monetary donations from shoppers.
The Cub Scouts brought all of the donations to a group meeting and were able to fill a UHaul van – twice! In total, the children collected 5,600 pounds of food, almost tripling the amount they have collected the past few years.
The children also collected $2000 in cash and supermarket gift cards. The entire donation went to the Penndel Food Pantry in Langhorne, which is part of the Bucks County Housing Group – a total value of food donated and money raised of $10,000!
Barbara Lutts, Coordinator of the Food Pantry, said, “What a sea of donations you brought to us at the Pantry! What an incredible collection! Thanks to all the extraordinary Scouts who worked so hard to make this all happen – as well as to the helpers on delivery day! Pack 99’s contribution is one that we can all add to the record books. GREAT JOB!”
