Mike and Frances Grispino settled in Philadelphia and opened a mom and pop corner store. Their specialty was fresh meats since Mike had been a butcher by trade in Italy.
Frances was no stranger to good food either, having been raised with a reverence for the land and how to live off it. She recalls, “If I had to make pasta for the family, it would begin by rising early to cut the wheat. Taking it to the mill to be ground into flour before even starting the pasta making process.”
Today the passion continues in Doylestown and Warminster. Still family-owned and operated, Altomonte’s credits our success to an amazing team, loyal customers who return generation after generation and an unwavering commitment to quality food.
Altomonte’s bakes our own fresh bread and rolls daily using special Tipo ‘00’ flour from Italy.
For a superb treat, order our Roman pizza; the artisan dough goes through a cold fermentation process that takes 72 hours and has 85% water hydration which makes for an incredible light and satisfying crust.
The prepared foods’ case boasts numerous selections, from our famous chicken salad (which has a cult following) to lasagna to veggie dishes and chicken cutlets – all homemade from scratch of course.
Pastry, cakes and cookies are all made using real ingredients and 100% butter. Notable selections include pignoli, ricotta cookies, cannoli and the most perfect chocolate cake.
Altomonte’s butcher shop features local, dry-aged prime cuts of beef with quality that surpasses the greatest of steakhouses and the juiciest, fresh local turkeys.
Daily lunch specials add delicious and unique offerings to an already wonderful sandwich menu.
Our Doylestown store features Bucks County’s premier Italian wine destination with an amazing portfolio, on-site sommelier and monthly wine classes.
