Turf Care: We are currently applying our second round of crabgrass control. This round includes weed control as well as a balanced slow-release fertilizer. Warmer temperatures are coming, bringing out all our springtime pests:
Flea, Tick and Mosquito Suppression: Fleas and young ticks will be present, and mosquitos will be here soon with the warmer weather. We have begun our applications to suppress these pests.
Applications are done by fogging the perimeter of the property as well as spraying nesting areas. Plant material around the house (patio, deck, pool, swing set wood lines if applicable) will also be treated.
Adult ticks are present now, laying eggs, and active any day when temperatures are above freezing. Eggs hatch in the spring. Larvae are present during late summer and nymphs during late spring and throughout the summer.
Ticks “hang out” on the ends of branches and tall grass leaves. Any animal or human brushing up against the plant runs the risk of picking up a tick hitchhiker.
Being “BUGGED” by mosquitos? Adult female mosquitoes lay eggs in anything holding water. Eggs survive drying out up to eight months. Mosquitoes only need a small amount of water to lay eggs. Any container storing water make a great “nursery.”
Eggs hatch after water (from rain or a sprinkler) covers the eggs. Larvae can be seen in the water. They are very active and are often called “wigglers.” They become pupae, which live in the water. An adult mosquito emerges from the pupae and flies away. The entire egg to adult cycle takes 7-10 days!
