Spotlight: Salon In Vogue

“Wock and Woll!”

I was just reminded by my three-year-old grandson exactly how important a good haircut is.   Zephyr Facetimed me every day for a week to secure an appointment.

His reply to my suggested future haircut was, “NO, NOW!” Tightly crossed arms, pouty face and overgrown fringe in his eyes completed his look of disdain.

You see, his parents had the notion that growing his hair long would keep him looking like a baby longer, but Zephyr’s hair was bothersome and in the way. Granne had to intervene, so I plucked him up on a Sunday and gave him a very cool Fauxhawk.

Now, children’s haircutting is NOT my forte, as a matter of fact we don’t do young children at Salon In Vogue, but I somehow achieved a great style on one slightly wiggly 3-year-old Zephyr.

When I took him home to show Mom, he promptly raced into the house, struck a pose and yelled, “WOCK AND WOLL!”  He then turned to me and said conspiratorially, “I A WOCK STAWR!”

I am fairly certain that he did not hear this on “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse!”

I don’t know where he heard this, but one thing I do know is that in this moment I was shocked into remembering just how transforming a good haircut can be.

Even a three-year-old needs his own identity, and a hairstyle can absolutely provide that identity.

I propose that we all refine our look with a fresh new hairstyle RIGHT NOW, and then yell “ROCK AND ROLL” to the heavens or to anyone who will listen!

In fact, I have been walking around with a ponytail since the beginning of COVID…I need to make an appointment with my stylist RIGHT NOW!
