Rakova Ballet School is the only ballet school in the area that offers character dance classes.
Character dance is an important, specialized subdivision of Classical Ballet. It is a theatrical representation of national and folk dances, mostly from European countries. You will see this type of dancing in famous ballets such as Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Coppelia, and Raymonda.
Character work helps dancers gain a deeper understanding of story ballets, builds stamina, and improves ballet technique. It also teaches musicality, rhythm and mime, often working with a prop such as a watering can, a garland or complicated headdress.
As a separate class for ages 10+, with it`s particular barre work and centre, this discipline is unique to the Russian Classical Ballet method. At times, it can be more challenging than a ballet class in regards to coordination and use of back muscles. It is always fun, and brings out different aspects of student’s personalities, new emotions and expressions. It teaches students to let go and enjoy the stage experience. This class is a brilliant opportunity to enrich young children`s knowledge of the world, developing an awareness of geography and cultural differences.
At Rakova Ballet school we teach students a wide range of character styles. Russian, Spanish, Hungarian, Polish and Arabic character movements are incorporated into fully developed exercises and routines. The class culminates in them learning & performing in recital at the end of the school year.
Discover a new facet of ballet training, develop artistry and challenge yourself further than you thought possible. Come to class and experience it firsthand!
