In 2020, the Family Service Emergency Homeless Shelter was a temporary home to 352 people, 111 of whom were children.
During this time, the shelter saw their waitlist grow by 30%, and the expenses grow by 35% in the effort to keep their residents safe.
When a person or family moves into the Family Service shelter they are provided with a number of on-site services intended to address all of the barriers to getting them back on their feet.
These include health evaluations and referrals, counseling, job search resources, transportation to appointments and interviews, and more.
With this assistance, all shelter residents are working toward the goal of moving into a home of their very own.
Family Service believes that dignity and understanding are things that each person deserves.
By treating the whole person, they’re able to address many of the root causes of homelessness in each individual or family and ultimately help them to a better future.
To continue this work, Family Service is hosting a virtual benefit to support the Family Service Emergency Homeless shelter.
The kick-off for this event will be held on Thursday, April 8th, at 6:00pm on both Zoom and Facebook Live, followed by a two-week fundraiser that wraps up on Thursday, April 22nd.
Family Service relies on support and contributions from the community to be able to deliver these services.
