The Langhorne Community Memorial Association’s 1738 Richardson House

The Langhorne Community Memorial Association was formed in 1919 following the First World War to honor those who served, and is overseen by a nine-member board of volunteers, five from Langhorne Borough, and one each from Langhorne Manor, Penndel, Hulmeville and Middletown Township.

The Association acquired the Richardson House at the corner of Maple and Bellevue Avenues in Langhorne. Citizens from the four boroughs and the township contributed funds to improve the House and place a plaque on the side of the building listing those who served in World War I. Built in 1738 by Joseph Richardson the house served as his residence and general store. General Washington housed some of his troops there following the battles of Trenton and Princeton. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The building is undergoing restoration to properly honor the WWI veterans. A grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development arranged by Senator Tommy Tomlinson was used to restore the windows. Generous donations from residents were used to repair the stucco, upgrade the electrical system and replace the air conditioning units. The walkway in the park was replaced using a grant from the State and donations from the Four Lanes End Garden Club and Langhorne Borough. However, much remains to be done including exterior woodwork.

The Richardson House is the home of the Peace Center, the Four Lanes End Garden Club and is available for community use and private functions.

For information on renting the Richardson House, call 215-421-5588.  Donations to help restore the Richardson House may be sent to the Memorial Association at: 111 West Maple Avenue, Langhorne, PA 19047.
