CHECK OUT THE NEW BUCKSBLOGSPOT. HELP FOR BUCKS COUNTY BUSINESSES AND ECONOMIC RECOVERY – BUCKSBLOGSPOT

Spotlight: Youth Orchestra of Bucks County

The Youth Orchestra of Bucks County (YOBC) is celebrating its 30th season!

YOBC creates opportunities for young musicians to achieve artistic excellence through enriching classical music experiences.

During the pandemic, YOBC’s passionate students have continued to build their skills virtually through dynamic online programming.

This fall, YOBC students attended mini-courses on topics such as effective practicing and strategies for tackling new music.

They developed their improvisational and compositional skills through a residency with The Collective Conservatory, creating short film scores and a symphonic suite (take a listen at yobc.org).

YOBC students continue to explore their role as musical leaders in community-based artistic projects through classes with new collaborators at Project 440.

YOBC’s virtual semester has provided innovative ways for young musicians to engage in musical learning.

As one student notes, “[studying online] allows us to have almost every possible tool at our disposal, and even though we can’t be in person, we can reach out to almost anyone and collaborate.”

The beginning of 2021 will see YOBC students collaborating in live online sessions led by exceptional conductors as they dive into the works of Dvorak, Elgar, Holst, and others.

Eight ensembles will rehearse virtually, with the potential to transition to in-person rehearsals as safety allows.

For the 2021-2022 season, registration for auditions will be opening soon at yobc.org.

Students must be in grades three through 12 and participate in their school instrumental music program to be eligible.

All brass, woodwind, string, and percussion instruments are included in YOBC programs.

The YOBC season includes weekly Sunday afternoon rehearsals from September to April in Newtown, as well as masterclasses, workshops, and visits from renowned guest soloists. Join us!

Founded in 1991, YOBC serves nearly 250 students in eight ensembles.
