    Spotlight: Pennsbury Kids

    Pennsbury Kids is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to Pennsbury School District (PSD) students in need.

    The District has just under 10,000 students, of which almost 25% (2,500 students) are considered “low income” according to PA state data.

    The needs among the students are multi-faceted and complex ranging from emotional, educational, or medical needs to housing and food insecurity.

    Many students are financially unable to participate in the Pennsbury community of sports or arts activities and miss this important developmental opportunity.

    Some examples of recent Pennsbury Kids activities:

    • Food support for over 400 students during the pandemic;
    • Stocking the food and resource pantry in the school buildings;
    • Fees for after school activities like karate and swimming classes at the YMCA;
    • Music instrument rental to allow elementary students to participate in school band;
    • Sports equipment for participation on school teams like football, wrestling, or swimming;
    • Beds or basic supplies for families moving from shelter to their own apartment or home;
    • For remote learning – headsets for the Chromebooks, Wi-Fi extenders, a desk and a chair.

    Pennsbury Kids works exclusively through the social workers and staff of the PSD:

    • The social workers and staff are trained and credentialed to understand and solve student and family issues.
    • The social workers and staff are entrusted to protect the privacy of the students and families.
    • The social workers and staff are knowledgeable about resources (private, county, state, etc.) and are experienced in connecting students and families to these resources.

    Pennsbury Kids’ question to the social workers is simple: “What do you need? What is missing to help this student have a better chance at success?” and we do our best to provide it.
