    River Valley Waldorf School

    Opening doors to learning
    Adjusting. Imagining. Carrying On…

In a new and ever-changing world, there is a comfort in consistency.

River Valley Waldorf School brings that to its students, whether indoors, outdoors, or on-screen when necessary.

Set on seven beautiful acres above the Delaware River in Upper Black Eddy, the fall semester at River Valley Waldorf reopened successfully with all safety protocols in place.

Lots of changes have occurred over several months to create the safest environment all around.

Not only did the staff and faculty carry out these changes, they carried them outside to let nature nurture the classrooms and curriculum alike.

All hands were on deck to ensure the entire facility was ready. From outdoor classrooms and new teaching tools to hand washing/sanitizing stations and updated signage, the kids adapted easily and smoothly to the new routines.

“One thing that’s really surprised me as we returned to school this year is definitely how resilient the kids are. After the first day or two, you wouldn’t have known that we were living through a pandemic or that our schedule and routine had been upended or rearranged,” said Molly Watson, fourth/fifth grade teacher.

When the mission of a pre-K through 8th grade school is to learn by doing in a nature-based environment, having it work well depends on everyone pitching in and being able to adapt when necessary.

That mission was put to the test since the beginning of the fall semester in September and the students and teachers surpassed expectations.

The plan is for a return to campus after winter break to continue the in-classroom learning experience that a Waldorf education is so well known for.

This collective goal couldn’t be more on point with the applied learning that River Valley Waldorf is all about, educating the whole child through creativity, activity and purpose.

From learning at home to feeling at home back in school, River Valley Waldorf School is actively welcoming new and returning students in their rolling admissions.
