Oh what a night
T’was the night before Christmas, and all through the house… and all these Christmas stories just don’t seem right this year. But did the town’s people in Galilee go through this mess 2000 years ago? Maybe not, but there was some controversy brewing in the little town of Nazareth after all. I seem to recall some talk on the town square months before this special night in Bethlehem. The talk was that Mary, unmarried at the time had a special delivery coming, before Prime ever existed. As an Angel explained to Mary, “Do not be frightened, for God has decided to bless you. You will become pregnant, and have a son, and his name shall be Jesus” (Luke 1).
Now, I don’t think Mary was running from house to house telling her friends about an Angel giving her a special message. But, she told her best friends Zack and Elizabeth the news. Elizabeth was overjoyed, and declared “You are blessed by God above all other women, because you believed that the Lord would do what he said”.
And now, 2000 years later, we celebrate the birth of an innocent baby, who grew into an iconic figure and changed the world. The world that is changed is lived in the hearts of men, women and children, those who believe the message of forgiveness, and a loving Father. A Father who loved the world so much, that He sent his only Son, who would have to pay a price by sacrificing his life (John 3). This is the message of Christmas. Not the gifts, not the tree, not the tinsel, and not the ham.
In this fast paced world, please take a moment to experience what Christmas is all about. Think of those around you that need hope, need a meal, and need a Savior.
