Veterans Day Observance a reminder of HealthLink’s free dental services for qualifying veterans

With Veterans Day fast approaching it seems most appropriate that our citizens should take a few moments to remember why this day is so important to this country and ALL its residents.

A little more than a year after World War I (“The Great War”) ended and the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28th, 1919, Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of the United States, proclaimed November 11th as the first commemoration of “Armistice Day.” He did that with solemn pride to honor the heroism of all those who died in service to the nation. Wilson wanted the country to recognize the fallen, with gratitude for things their service freed all of us from and to show our undying commitment to peace and justice. On October 8th, 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued the first “Veterans Day Proclamation” and replaced Armistice Day with the broader celebration. He did this “in order to insure that on this day the proper and widespread observance of this anniversary, all veterans, all veterans’ organizations, and the entire citizenry will wish to join hands in the common purpose.”

“It is with that same gratitude and sense of common purpose that we at HealthLink Dental Clinic (HealthLink) have dedicated ourselves to providing FREE dental services to all qualified military veterans who live in Bucks and Montgomery Counties,” says Jenny Salisbury, HealthLink’s major gifts officer. “There are approximately 75,000 veterans now living in these two counties and many of them simply cannot afford dental care. It is our goal to help solve this problem for all low income and uninsured- veterans who apply.”

Veterans Day today is both a federal and state holiday. It is not the same as Memorial Day. It honors all veterans for their patriotism, love of country, willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. The men and women who have served in the various branches of the U.S. military have made huge sacrifices for our country. HealthLink is honored to provide services to qualifying veterans and hope to see more come through our doors as the awareness of our program spreads.
