Boy Scout returns to Churchville Nature Center to pay it forward

Evan Gerdy, a member of Boy Scout Troop 30 in Yardley and a senior at Neshaminy High School, has been visiting Churchville Nature Center on field trips with his school or with his family since he was a small child.

He loved the day camps and campfires in the woods hosted by the Center.

So when it was time to choose an Eagle Scout project that could benefit the community he thought of CNC.

After meeting with William Woodroffe, CNC’s land manager, Evan decided to construct additional outdoor wooden benches to add to the campfire circle.

Evan created a GoFundMe page to get financial support for the materials and also contributed some of his own money.

Two long benches were constructed and painted during the spring with help from his parents and other Scouts.

The additional benches will enable more families to enjoy s’mores around the campfire on a chilly fall evening – just as he did over the years.

Evan plans to attend Walnut Hill College in the fall and major in Culinary Arts.
