Robert is assistant superintendent for business and board secretary for the Hopewell Valley Regional School District (HVRSD) in Mercer County, which serves the communities of Hopewell, Pennington, and Titusville.
He joined HVRSD in 2002 as the assistant business administrator; he was promoted to business administrator/board secretary in 2007.
School business administrators (BAs) statewide, like Colavita, must make decisions in an unprecedented time, as they work with their administrative teams and boards of education to provide students with a quality education while also helping to create guidelines that protect the health and safety of students, staff and the community. “It is critical that BAs are part of their district’s reopening teams because we are responsible for many of the essential areas that will enable us to bring our students and staff back, such as finances, transportation, facilities, and food service,” explained Robert. “We must also provide guidance to ensure proper guidelines are met as our districts implement unique solutions for providing the best educational experience possible to support our communities at this time.”
Robert’s firsthand experiences and his penchant for connecting with colleagues make him an ideal leader for NJASBO.
A member of NJASBO for nearly 20 years, he has served in many leadership roles, including president of Mercer County ASBO, and as an NJASBO Trustee and a member of the Conference and Budget committees.
ASBO International has awarded Robert its Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting seven times.
