Debra Sparks Dance Works – Newtown

Debra Sparks Dance Works of Newtown has been educating dancers in our community for over 30 years.

The pandemic has challenged Debra Sparks Dance Works to think outside the box in order to continue to educate and train dancers in a positive and healthy environment.

Classes are now being held both in the studio and virtually for all ages. However, when Miss Debra saw that there was now a need for a children’s educational program due to the limited class sizes in preschools, she decided to take on a new challenge.

Miss Debra Sparks has run three dance studios over the course of 30 years, and owned and directed a non-profit, 501(c)3 ballet company.

She is a former professional ballerina, holds her BA in Psychology, a Masters Degree in education, is a mother, and a grandmother.

Miss Debra explains, “I was motivated initially by my granddaughter’s preschool program, which offered little study in the arts and a limited emphasis on children of the world and cultured similarities and differences. With this in mind, I began thinking how I could provide these, as well as the commonly found curriculum in the traditional pre-school setting. Then the pandemic hit and many families are now looking for alternative options for their children’s school in a safe and healthy environment.”

This is how her 8-Point Learning Program was created.

The 8-Point Curriculum is designed to encourage academic and individual progress, while instilling a love of learning.

The 8-Point Learning Program will provide a perfect combination of learning and fun where both boys and girls are encouraged to celebrate their uniqueness and their endless possibilities of success in both academics and the arts while building self esteem and confidence.

The 8 points include Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Socialization, Fine/Gross Motor Development, Culture, and Creative Expression.

The 50×50 unimpeded space has been reformatted to accommodate for social distancing with still plenty of room for playing and moving freely. The program offers a 4:1 ratio and is designed for ages 3-5.

Class meets 3 days a week (M,W,F) from 9:30am-12:30pm, and is offered in two sessions.

Session 1 runs from September 8th-December 18th, and enrollment is still open!
