The lighting industry has changed so much since I entered the electrical trade.
Today we have a lot more of a variety to choose from when it comes to the different types of lighting.
When my wife and I bought our house five years ago, it was in a cul-de-sac that was not lighted at all at night.
She said to me that she didn’t want to come home to a dark house due to safety concerns and asked that we install some outside lighting.
We had a variety of types of lighting to choose from: lamp posts, wall lights by the door, landscape lighting, recessed down lighting and floodlights, just to name a few.
We decided to install lamp-posts on the driveway, wall lights at the doors and floodlights with motion sensors around the home.
Later we added recessed lights under the soffits to dimly downlight the house for aesthetic purposes.
The lights are controlled by a simple automated system so that even if we are not home the lights will come on before we arrive home.
People ask me what the best source of security is for their home and one of the first things I mention is outdoor lighting.
If a thief is stalking the neighborhood, they are looking for the easiest entry.
If your home is dark at night you are a prime target.
If you have proper lighting, even as little as landscape lighting, a thief has a much greater chance to be seen and caught.
If you’re not sure if you have adequate outdoor lighting or if you are interested in upgrading to energy savings LED fixtures, give Bruder Electric, Inc. a call at 215-956-0988 and we would be glad to send a technician to your home or business to give you a thorough assessment of your lighting system and any recommendations that we would have.
