Mr. Sonny Facenda, the new owner of The Newtown School of Music, is excited to introduce the changes made to ensure students’ safety.
In accordance with CDC protocols to reduce exposure to COVID-19, Mr. Facenda plans to use disinfecting, screening, distancing and masks to ensure student and staff safety.
Virtual lessons will also be available. The studio room will be disinfected between every lesson.
Students and staff must use hand sanitizer before and after each lesson. Upon entrance, students and parents will have their temperature taken.
Each lesson will be one teacher and one student to reduce the number of exposures for the student.
Masks must be worn at all times, except when putting an instrument to the mouth to play, and at that point there will be a plexiglass screen separating student from teacher.
Parents will have the option to wait in their car during the lesson, or if waiting in the store must remain six feet apart and wear a mask.
Mr. Facenda, an on-site instructor at The Newtown School of Music for over 30 years, states that it was interesting becoming the new owner during a pandemic.
However, he was impressed by the positive response his students had to virtual lessons that were done early in the pandemic, as well as to the changes in the school.
Mr. Facenda has degrees from both Trenton State and Villanova University in Performance and Music Education, with a major in Percussion and minors in Brass and Woodwind.
He has performed with the Fabulous Coasters and is presently playing with the Rendition Big Band.
He is currently the Band Director at Villa Joseph Marie High School and St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Grade School.
He is joined by several instructors who are specialists in their respective areas.
These instructors include both High School Band/Musical Directors as well as performers with local orchestras and bands. Please see the website for details on the instructors.
During August and September, The Newtown School of Music is offering one free lesson on any instrument to both adults and children.
If a student does not have an instrument, one can be provided.
Their Grand Opening is Saturday, September 19th, from 1:00 to 4:00pm.
The Newtown School of Music, established 1960, is located at 120 S. State Street, Newtown (entrance around back).
