A poem from a hometown hero

submitted by Debbie Marino, CRNP, Nurse Practitioner

This background music is called “FADE AWAY.” Spread this message to others faster than this virus can spread so that we can make a “world” of difference.

I am talking to the age group 18 to 49,

The world needs you to listen to this plea to keep us all fine,

The Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19,

Is spreading like crazy through the world, it’s a virus that the world has never seen.

When the symptoms go through the body, it is called “systemic,”

More middle-aged people and elderly are contracting it, and now it’s a pandemic,

This is a bold reminder that it is up to YOU!

So pay attention to this advice so you will know what to do.

Even though we can’t see it, the virus lives all over the place,

So you need to remember to wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds and don’t touch your face,

If you know you can’t do this, then remember to think ahead and be wiser,

Plan in advance and carry the hand sanitizer.

If you don’t have it, look around in places you enter, and please think quick

It is being provided for you to keep others from getting sick,

It is YOU that needs to start using your brain,

Don’t get in the car with your friends, ride a bus, fly in an airplane or hop on a train.

If an infected person coughs or sneezes on you,

You can get the virus and transmit it to someone new,

You may feel fine, but now your grandma or grandpa become sick and start to show it,

Now it’s too late, even though you realize it and know it.

Your grandparents need to go to the hospital and now they may die,

But you love them so much and you don’t want to say goodbye,

So to prevent this, your job right now is to stay away from each other,

So that you will be able to save the life of your sister, your father, your brother and your mother.

This is called social distancing and it will save a life,

You will be saving other family members also like your aunt, your uncle, and your parents who are husband and wife,

The United States of America is getting sicker as it also takes a worldly toll,

So please stay at home and reach into your soul.

Don’t get together with your friends to hold hands or play basketball,

Save a life…and Skype, Facetime or make a phone call,

So from your friends and family, you need to stay six feet apart,

So that you can save other people’s lives, please have a heart.

Many people are dying from a cough, a fever and shortness of breath,

Pay attention to what we are saying to prevent another death,

So now is the time to make the decision to use your smart mind,

Don’t be a part of the problem, be the solution, and be kind.

The way to do this is to stay home and exercise, watch a Netflix movie, read a book,

Do yoga, go for a brisk walk, or create a meal to cook,

If you see people outside driving on the street,

We are the essential workers that are needed to help this virus be beat.

We work at the pharmacy, the police station, the hospital and in other types of healthcare,

We are here for you and your loved ones, we need to stay healthy, so please show us that you care,

Please stay indoors and find things to do,

Otherwise, the numbers of sick people will rise even more and healthcare supplies are already becoming far and few.

Don’t start tomorrow because tomorrow will be too late,

Start right now, today is the date,

Be the leader of your friend group, or family at your own home, and be there to stay,

Following these guidelines will prevent others from getting sick and YOU will help save a life today.

Be responsible and show others that YOU can take action,

Guide others on how to make healthy decisions and YOU will gain so much satisfaction,

Knowing that YOU thought about the way to positively react,

Will help your neighbor next door and make a world of impact.
