Newtown Lions Club formed 50 years ago with the commitment to provide assistance to their neighbors.
“We Serve” the community with special focus given to serving the sight and hearing challenged and institutions supporting these challenges.
Locally, Lions support Bucks County Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Penns Park Food Pantry, Newtown Fire Association, Newtown Ambulance Squad, Breakfast with Santa, and Morris Satterthwaite Scholarship Fund benefitting a Council Rock student.
The Club supports Lions Beacon Lodge (a camp for the blind in Mount Union), Overbrook School for the Blind, Pennsylvania Lions Eye Research, Pennsylvania Lions Hearing Foundation for Hearing Research, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Delaware Valley Eye Bank and C.F. Foundation.
All funds collected by Lions are donated for charitable purposes.
Fundraising activities are sales of Historic Newtown Coverlets, White Cane Drive and Gift of Sight Golf Classic.
Over the years, Lions have collected thousands of used eyeglasses in their yellow mailboxes located throughout Newtown.
Glasses are recycled and provided to Lions medical teams who travel to third world countries to provide free eye exams, eyeglasses and eye surgeries; grants are sent for special disasters, such as hurricanes throughout the world.
Through their contributions and annual funding, Newtown Lions helped establish the Low Vision Clinic located at the Bucks County Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
