YOBC caps off busy year with concerts, master classes, and European tour

The 2012 spring semester at the Youth Orchestra of Bucks County (YOBC) was a busy one with a series of master classes for their string players, percussionists, and would-be jazz improvisers. Wind Symphony also opened its doors to about 20 guests for an April Fool’s Day open rehearsal where everyone got to play some new and different music.

The regular season culminated in a concert featuring Jason DePue of the Philadelphia Orchestra as a guest soloist with the YOBC Symphony Orchestra. But for 55 YOBC students and their families, the season did not end there.

On May 20th the tour ensemble rehearsed for a 10-day trip in July to northern Spain and southern France. The group is scheduled to perform at several international youth music festivals in the south of France as well as enjoying the historical and architectural sights and beaches.

Philadelphia Orchestra violinist is guest artist at YOBC Spring Concert

The Youth Orchestra of Bucks County (YOBC) will present its 2012 Spring Concerts on Saturday, April 28th.

The Advanced Division Concert will feature a special guest appearance by Jason DePue, first violinist with the Philadelphia Orchestra. DePue will play J.S. Bach’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in A Minor with the YOBC Symphony Orchestra. The concert will take place at Maple Point Middle School in Langhorne, at 7:00pm.

A graduate of Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music, Mr. DePue is also a member of the highly acclaimed DePue Brothers Band, which skillfully combines bluegrass, classical, and rock genres.

The evening concert will also include the YOBC Wind Ensemble and a unique performance of “Cucina Bella” by the YOBC Percussion Ensemble. The YOBC Junior and Intermediate Divisions will present their Spring Concert at 2:00pm the same date and location. The afternoon concert will highlight the string ensembles – Prima Strings, Concertino, Philharmonia – and the Wind Symphony, as well as several chamber groups.

The YOBC creates opportunities for young musicians to achieve artistic excellence through enriching classical music experiences. Students from all over the region come to YOBC every week to hone their skills and achieve their musical goals. In over 20 years, YOBC has enriched the lives of more than 1,500 students.
