“TEEN SCENE” CB East Golf reaches another milestone

CB EAST TEEN

by Andrea Gutierrez, Grade 10

Back in the heat of August as Central Bucks High School East golfers prepared for another season, the team had no idea that 2011 promised to be one of its most successful seasons yet. After months of dedication, discipline, and diligence, the 2011 CB East Golf Team earned the title of undefeated Suburban One League Champions and the District One Runners-up.

While the entire Golf Team contributed to accomplishing these impressive titles, some CB East golfers also earned their own titles by excelling individually. For two golfers, juniors Ashley Cassidy and Stewart Rickenbach, the season has not ended. They will both be competing in the upcoming regional and state competitions.

Ashley, a member of CB East’s state championship team last season, recently achieved third place in the individual girls’ Suburban One League championship and fifth place in the individual girls’ District One championship. Stewart came in fourth place in the individual boys’ Suburban One League championship and placed eighth in the individual boys’ District One championship. Both will move on in the post-season to attempt to qualify for the state championship.

23rd Annual Charley Roach Golf Invitational to benefit Epilepsy Foundation Eastern PA

The Epilepsy Foundation Eastern Pennsylvania (EFEPA) is hitting the links in support of the 109,000 people living with epilepsy/seizure disorders.

On September 13th, join over 100 golfers at the 23rd Annual Charley Roach Golf Invitational at RiverCrest Golf Club and Preserve in Phoenixville, PA. The event, sponsored by the Charley and Peggy Roach Charities, is held in memory of the EFEPA’s founder, Charley Roach, who realized that the area was severely lacking in resources for people with epilepsy. It was with Mr. Roach’s vision the EFEPA was established in 1972 and now serves 18 counties in Pennsylvania. Mr. Roach was an avid golfer and the invitational is a great way to keep his memory and commitment to service alive.

The golf day begins at 11:00am with a barbeque lunch and followed by 18-holes of golf in a shamble format. After a day on the course, golfers are invited to a cocktail reception, dinner and silent auction. Raffle prizes and golf competitions will be offered throughout the day. Prizes include two round-trip tickets on Southwest.

“We are gearing up for another fun day on the golf course, but we also are remembering the main mission of the invitational, raising awareness of those living with epilepsy,” said Event Chairman, Tim Roach.

Money raised from the tournament will directly support the EFEPA. Through the contributions, the EFEPA will be able to continue its programs and services to people with epilepsy in eastern Pennsylvania. Some of these programs and services include: sending a child with a seizure disorder to Camp Achieve for a week, helping an adult receive support and advocacy for health or employment assistance, or providing a newly diagnosed individual with a network of resources to assist them with the challenges that epilepsy offers every day.

Golf and sponsorship opportunities are still available.

Contact Madeline Bergman at development@efepa.org for more information or visit www.golfforepilepsypa.kintera.org.

Chandler Hall’s 12th Annual Golf Classic a success

Chandler Hall Board Member Donald Bruckman and friends prepare to play in the 12th Annual Golf Classic at Chandler Hall.

Chandler Hall’s 12th Annual Golf Classic, held at the Trenton Country Club, was a remarkable success. Sponsors, golfers, volunteer committee members and spectators came together to raise a record $40,000 for Chandler Hall’s elder care services and hospice program.

One hundred and six golfers enjoyed Trenton Country Club’s challenging fairways and fast greens. Each golfer received a FootJoy rain jacket as a thank you for their support and, in addition, many participants won terrific items in the live C-Bay auction and silent auction, made possible by nearly 40 donors.

Co-Chair Tony Petsis commented, “It is great to see the community rally to support this very worthy cause. Our committee of community volunteers works hard to make this event a success and any success we have is a direct result of their efforts and generous sponsor support. Every year we ask ourselves, what can we do to make this event even better? I guess you will need to attend next year to find out!”

Chandler Hall extends its sincerest appreciation to all those who supported the event.

“The 12th Golf Classic, co-chaired by Tony Petsis and Ryan Parry along with a terrific volunteer planning committee, participants and sponsors raised more than ever before,” said Chandler Hall’s new President of the Board, Ramona Kirwan.

“The Golf Classic helps Chandler Hall sustain, and enhance, its quality healthcare services and caring approach, and we’re looking forward to building on our past successes to make this an even more dynamic event in the future.”
