FOOD PANTRY

On Sunday, September 11th, Emilee Schluth and Jenni Kelly, both Girls Scouts of Troop #2459 of the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter, hosted a Family Event Day at the Doylestown Bucks County Housing Group (BCHG) Food Pantry. This event was the culmination of months of hard work and effort that the girls had invested in order to enhance the quality of service at the Doylestown Pantry, while also earning their Silver Award, the highest award a Girl Scout Cadet can attain.

Emilee, an eighth grader from Lenape Middle School in Doylestown, presented two volumes of her Fresh Vegetable Cookbook, consisting of 180 recipes, to the pantry. She also brought volunteers she had trained to offer food demonstrations of some of the healthy recipes from her cookbooks to pantry clients. Emilee, along with her volunteers, served samples of foods from her cookbooks, as well as refreshments, and handed out copies of her recipes.

This Family Event Day was the third time Emilee and her volunteers had been at the pantry presenting sample recipe demonstrations. During the Family Event Day, Jenni, a ninth grader also from Lenape Middle School, presented two resting/waiting benches that she had constructed with the help of volunteers, along with two decorative planters to the pantry. As a result, clients can now have a seating area while they wait in line for their food.
