Filmmaker Bert Shapiro will present his acclaimed documentary, ”Speaking For Myself,” an intimate look at Manhattan’s creative heart seen through the eyes and passions of eight performing artists. The screening will take place on Tuesday, November 8th at 7:30pm at the County Theater in Doylestown.

Shapiro’s intimate and unpretentious film explores the lives of eight performing artists in New York City: a dancer, a concert pianist, an actress, a Noh performer, a multi-instrumentalist, a tabla virtuoso, an organist and a singing poet. What is revealed is not so much who they are as individuals, or their successes, but more their character, vision and tenacity. They all share a uniform love of craft and immense creativity in addition to their common love of New York City.

Shapiro has made an inspiring film that is free of the usual clichés. London-born and currently residing in Bucks County, Bert Shapiro has been making documentary videos for more than a decade. After a career in book publishing he began filmmaking. He has since created many shorts and documentaries on varied topics such as fencing, rock carving, farmstock auctioning and the art of handmade noodles.

The filmmaker will be on hand at the screening of “Speaking For Myself” to present the film and take questions and answers afterwards. Admission to this event is free for members of the County and Ambler Theaters. General admission tickets are $9.75. Senior citizen and student admissions are $7.25. Member admission is $5.
