Beth Styer, executive director of CHC, said the program is a great opportunity for expectant adolescents to share their feelings in a comfortable relaxed atmosphere while they learn about pregnancy & delivery.

Participants discuss the emotional and physical changes that occur during pregnancy, as well as nutrition, breathing and relaxation exercises used during labor and delivery.  The adolescents are taught infant care, breast/bottle-feeding, and parenting skills.  “Supportive services are also available such as transportation, counseling, housing referrals, labor support, clothing and furniture,” said Styer.  Interested persons may join the program any time during the 10 -week program.  There is no charge for this program.

Child, Home and Community was started in 1980 by a school nurse and a junior high school teacher to provide early intervention for adolescents facing unplanned pregnancy and parenting.  Today, CHC offers prenatal, parenting, life-skills and  prevention education to more than 2000 at-risk teens residing in Bucks and Montgomery Counties.  The agency offers extracurricular programs at nine local hospitals and has established school-based programs in nine districts to provide education, support and advocacy throughout the school day.
