Bucks Young Guns win it all at Cal Ripken 9U Prospect Tournament!

On the weekend of April 29th the Bucks County Young Guns competed in the Cal Ripken Prospect Tournament in Aberdeen, Maryland.  The tournament consisted of 12 teams from the states of Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New York.

The Young Guns defeated All Star Baseball Academy in game one, 15-2, in Cal Sr.’s Yard (the stadium).  They then beat the North Shore Vikings out of New York, 15-2, on Wrigley Field.  Sunday they defeated the GoWags Expos from Harrisburg, 8-3, in Nationals Park.  Those three wins helped the team win their pool and were seeded third in the playoff round.  In the semi-final game, they defeated the Lake Shore Grey Sox, 12-11, on an exciting play at the plate to end the game.

The Championship game was back at Cal Sr.’s Yard.  The Young Guns took on the CP Stars from New York, who were defending champions.  The CP Stars jumped out to a 6-2 lead after four innings.  But the Young Guns came firing back and scored two in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 6-4.  Down to their last out, Gunner Gillan hit a two-run homer to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning.  The Guns held the Stars scoreless in the sixth to send it to extra innings.

Neither team could score in the seventh, but the Young Guns got two runners on base to open the eighth inning.  Gunner walked back to the plate and hit a triple to put them up 8-6.  With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Jordan Longino made an incredible play to end the game as the Bucks County Young Guns captured the 9U Prospect Tournament Championship.

All 16 players contributed the entire weekend to this team’s success.
