The Township Library of Lower Southampton recently announced a partnership with the Bristol Riverside Theater (BRT) as they present a book club entitled "From Page to Stage." The club selections are inspired by the plays of BRT's upcoming season. The participants will read a book upon which the play is based or a corollary book. All book selections will be held at the library prior to the production at the BRT. At the book club meeting, participants will be encouraged to discuss the book with the library's group leader. Then the group will learn about the book/play from a different perspective, as each meeting will present a representative from BRT. It could be the director, an actor, a set designer or a puppeteer. There will be five sessions, the first starting in September with sessions taking place every other month until April 2011. On Saturday, September 25th discuss the first book/play - the classic thriller "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde" by Robert Louis Stevenson. Group facilitator this month is Dr. Linda Keuhl. Professor Keuhl's area of specialization is world drama, and she has lead many interesting book discussions at the Township Library. After the book discussion, learn all about the play from a different perspective - from the Founding Director of the BRT, Ms. Susan Atkinson. The play will run at BRT from Tuesday, September 28th through Sunday, October 17th. Participants in this discussion are eligible to receive 20% discounted tickets to see "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde" for any Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday evening performance. Book discussions will take place on Saturday, September 25th from 10:00am to noon at the Township Library, 1983 Bridgetown Pike, Feasterville. Registration is currently taking place. You can reserve your book when you sign up for this session. If you want more information about the book club, call the library or check out BRT's Web site at www.brtstage.org for the BRT's upcoming 2010/2011 theatrical season. Also this fall at the library is the AARP Safety Driving Program for Seniors, taking place Thursday, September 23rd at 9:00am. This is a 4 1/2-hour refresher course. In order to be eligible for this class, you must have taken an AARP Safety Driving Class for Seniors within the past three years. You must provide a certificate from a previous class or a letter from your insurance company indicating the safety program deduction. You must also be a licensed driver and 55 years or older. The fee for this program is $12 for AARP members (AARP ID required) and $14 for non-members, payable to the instructor. Cash, money order or checks made out to AARP are acceptable. Remember to bring your driver's license to the class. Registration is currently taking place. On Wednesday, September 29th at 7:00pm, come to the library for "A Visit with Edgar Allan Poe." You'll meet Edgar Allan Poe, as portrayed by actor and historian Bob Gleason of the American Historical Theatre. Poe wrote most of the greatest works while living in Philadelphia for more than six years, including "The Tell-Tale Heart," "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" and "The Gold Bug." Exploring Poe's psyche, Mr. Gleason provides an evening full of vivid images, terrifying tales and heart-thumping excitement. As Bob Gleason portrays Poe, you will discover the all-too-human poet, the intense husband, the haunted soul. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
