Snowshoe or Hike with Friends of the Delaware Canal at Tinicum Park, 963 River Rd., Erwinna. If there is snow on the ground, bring your own cross-country skis or snowshoes, or borrow a pair of snowshoes from Delaware Canal State Park. Wearing waterproof boots for snowshoes is suggested. Bring water and dress appropriately for cold weather conditions. Program will be cancelled in the event of rain or dangerous driving conditions. Ice Harvesting

Howell Living History Farm will open the 2015 season with its annual "Ice Harvesting" event on Saturday, January 24. From 10a.m.-4p.m., visitors can help farmers cut ice and fill an ice house and learn how ice was once used for fueling ice boxes, preserving perishables during transport and of course, making ice cream. At 1pm and 3pm visitors can make and sample ice treats such as old fashioned snow cones and ice cream.

A craft program for children, “Ice Candles,” will be offered from 11am-3pm. Crafts take about 20 minutes to complete; cost is $3 per craft. Groups (8 or more) must pre-register for craft programs.

Howell Farm is maintained and operated by the Mercer County Park Commission. It is located on Valley Rd., just off Rt. 29, two miles south of Lambertville, NJ. (GPS address: 70 Woodens La., Lambertville, NJ 08530.) Visiting hours are 10am-4pm Tuesday through Saturdays. Parking and admission are free. The New Hope Art League is very proud to announce that Patrick Connors will be doing a special lecture on human anatomy at our meeting Tues., Jan. 27 at 7pm at the St. Martin of Tours Church school cafeteria, 1 Riverstone Circle (off Rt. 179/W. Bridge St by Staples), New Hope.

Patrick Connors is an accomplished plein air painter and a graduate of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He teaches at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Studio Incamminati, and the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art in NYC. His awards include an Oxford University Summer Residency Fellowship in painting and anatomy, a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant for painting, the Samuel D. Gross/Thomas Eakins Award for Significant Contributions to Medicine and its Surrounding Culture by the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, and the select alternate for a Senior Research Fulbright Scholarship for Italy. Maple Tree Tapping

Sugaring season will begin on Saturday, January 31 when visitors can enjoy the work, fun and rewards of helping farmers tap maple trees, hang sap buckets and cut firewood for use in syrup making.  Crews will be working in the farm's 150-tree sugar bush throughout the day and welcome visits from those who would like to watch the operations or lend a hand. Anyone interested in making syrup at home can get pointers and hands-on experience during tree tapping workshops held at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Taps and buckets needed for backyard sugaring operations are available for sale in the farm's Visitor Center.
