Memorial Day Observance at Washington Crossing Historic Park, 1112 River Rd., Washington Crossing, PA. Come celebrate George Washington's birthday with the General himself! General Washington will be on hand to greet visitors and accept your well wishes, while demonstrations ranging from Blacksmithing to Open Hearth Cooking take place around the site. The Marbleheaders will be on hand to discuss piloting the Durham Boats across the Delaware on Christmas night, 1776. Children will delight in games, crafts, storytelling, and colonial musket drills. Collecting puzzle pieces from touring the demonstration sites can lead to a birthday prize. Finally, General Washington will cut his cake at 1:30pm to share with his guests. This self-guided tour is held one day only, Saturday, June 1st from 10:00am to 4:00pm, rain or shine. Honorary chair Mayor Larry Keller of New Hope is opening his private gardens in town for the event and will also be giving a presentation there at 4:15. It is the first time his gardens will be open for public viewing. A full color brochure with pictures and description of each garden, map, and easy directions are included with each ticket. Ticket price is $30 and Garden rewards bags stuffed with gifts and offers from national partners and local sponsors are available to the first 500 ticket holders. National Trails Day Bike Ride and Picnic, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Virginia Forrest Recreation Area, 3292 River Rd. (PA-32), New Hope, PA. Join Friends of the Delaware Canal and Delaware Canal State Park for a bike ride and picnic celebration of National Trails Day. Bring your bike and join state park educator Ian Kindle for a 9-10 mile loop trail ride on the Delaware Canal towpath in Pennsylvania and the Delaware and Raritan Canal towpath in New Jersey. Mountain bike or hybrid tires are strongly encouraged, and helmets are required. Please bring water. On Saturday, June 1st, the Relay For Life returns to New Hope-Solebury High School for the eighth year. The Relay, an overnight team event to raise money for cancer research, education programs, and services for cancer patients and their families, takes place 11:00am Saturday to 9:00am Sunday. In celebration of National Cancer Survivor Day, cancer survivors and their caregivers are invited to attend a special ceremony and a luncheon in conjunction with the Cancer Institute of Doylestown Hospital. The community is invited to attend and enjoy the activities during the day such as an Elvis impersonator, a healthy eating demo by Wegmans for kids, a pie eating contest, raffles and a bowka class. A sampling of dishes from several local restaurants, “A Taste of Hope,” will be available for a small donation. A cookbook, “Cooking Up a Cure,” is available for a $15 donation. It includes favorite recipes from Relay participants and recipes from 13 area restaurants. In the evening the track will be lit by luminaria in honor of or in memory of those affected by cancer. Participants are asked to bring canned food donations which will be used as the base for candles in the luminaria bags. The Key Club at New Hope-Solebury High School is organizing a canned goods drive for this purpose. Following the event, the food will be donated to Fisherman’s Mark in Lambertville. Details about NH-S Community Choir presents ‘A Family Album’ To conclude their very first season, the New Hope – Solebury Community Choir, under the direction of Episcopal minister of music and New Hope resident Rick Rosen, will present “A Family Album” on Sunday afternoon, June 2nd at 4:00pm at the New Hope Community Meeting Room, 125 New Street, New Hope. The NHSCC is made up of members of the immediate New Hope, Solebury, and Lambertville communities, as well as singing residents of the surrounding area. NHSCC’s program features a mixture of unique choral gems, individual performances, and a surprise guest or two. Music comes from a wide range of composers, including Brown, McLachlan, Copland, Toch, Griffin, DiBari, Bowman, Tinsley, Poulenc, and more. Individual performers include NHSCC members Liz Bowman, Mary Freedman Jennifer Guglielmi, Giuseppe Minniti, and Melissa Wieczorek. Tickets are $10, with children under 12 admitted at no charge. Acclaimed Bucks County-based male a cappella a group Cordus Mundi has invited some friends to join them for the group’s annual season-ending “Cordus & Friends” concert on Sunday, June 9th at 4:00pm at Trinity Episcopal Church in Solebury. Cordus Mundi will present the first half of the performance, and then will be joined after intermission by a select group of soprano and alto “Friends,” to create a full 30-voice, mixed a cappella choir. The combined ensemble is once again led by talented guest conductor Dr. David N. Fryling, Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies at Hofstra University. The Bucks County Audubon Society will be hosting a rest stop at its facility on Creamery Road, Solebury Township on June 15th (rain date June 22nd).
