The Actors' NET of Bucks County is now accepting registrations for enrollment in its 2010 Summer Stars theatre training program for young people. The popular four-week course meets daily, Monday through Friday. Youngsters aged 7 - 12 attend the morning session from 9:00am to 1:00pm and teens 13 - 17 attend afternoons from 1:30 - 5:30pm. Students receive professional training in acting, singing and dance in a pressure-free atmosphere designed as much to be fun as instructional. NET Co-Founder and General Manager Joe Doyle once again presides over the program, custom writing original musical shows for the students to perform at the end of the course, on the weekend of July 30th. All classes are held at the Heritage Center, 635 N. Delmorr Avenue (Route 32), Morrisville. The youngsters will perform July 30th at 8:00pm and 31st at 2:00pm. The teen division will perform July 31st at 8:00pm and August 1st at 2:00pm. "This year's program will be especially exciting," Joe said. "Each class will present two one-act musicals, which I'll custom write to ensure that all students have meaningful roles to play. The 'littles' will perform Kids Town - a musical romp about what happens when space aliens turn all the inhabitants of a small town into children! Through acting, song and dance, we'll explore truths about humanity. Who will learn more? The aliens or the humans? Our second musical for the kids will be Colonial Capers - when the British threaten a small town, it's the colonial kids who battle the red coats!" Joe said. "Our teens will also perform in a two-act musical titled Twisted Television, featuring four 'episodes' of The Brody Bunch, Galligan's Island, Charlie's Devilish Angels and The Adventures of Robbing Hoods," Joe noted. "The scripts will be satiric in nature and crammed with good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll songs, which should appeal to them as well as their parents and grandparents." At press time, Joe said his returning staff instructors include Dani Tucci-Juraga as choreographer and dance instructor, and Erica Schlegel Silver as musical director and accompanist. Joe serves as acting instructor for the teen course and Tess Ammerman returns as acting instructor for the kids. Sarah Webster will also return as assistant to the instructors. Cost of the four-week program is $450; however, students registered before April 30th, 2010 will be charged only $425 as an "early bird enrollment." The final deadline for enrolling is May 31st. Full payment is due by Orientation Sunday. Because July 4th falls on a Sunday this year, Orientation Sunday will be June 25th at 1:00pm. "We have to cap enrollment by the end of May," Joe explained, "in order to give me enough time to craft the scripts to accommodate the students enrolled. Roles are written to be gender specific and I make sure that each student gets his or her moment to shine. In Summer Stars, everyone gets to stand in the spotlight." "One of the things we're proudest of is that there are no hidden costs in our Summer Stars program," Joe said. "Many of the characters are written in such a way that the students can wear their normal clothes. But, if special costumes or makeup are needed for roles, we provide them. Our goal is to make the program fun and rewarding for the students and pressure-free for the parents as well." A printable registration form for 2010 Summer Stars can be found at the company's Web site, www.actorsnetbucks.org.
