LCA Scholarship Winners

Langhorne Council for the Arts (LCA) is pleased to announce the 2008 LCA Scholarship in the Arts award winners. The four recipients are not only very talented but all are also very active in many diverse school and community organizations. Each will use the scholarship money to pursue enrichment opportunities in the arts. The awards were presented at the studios of Nina and Michael Wommack on Friday, May 2nd. Nearly 50 people attended the ceremony, including LCA members, local artists, members of Langhorne Borough Council and the recipients' families. Deanna Roepcke is a sixth grade Distinguished Honor student at Pen Ryn School. She plays the piano and flute and is also a dancer. Deanna will apply her award toward the study of ballet, hip-hop and other styles of dance. Christopher Smirnov, an eighth grader at Maple Point Middle School, has talent in the visual and performing arts. A gifted violinist who plays in his school orchestra, Christopher is also a member of the Youth Orchestra of Bucks County and aspires to a career as a professional musician with hopes of attending a prestigious conservatory after high school. Chris will use his scholarship for private lessons to help him attain that goal. Adam Gillen is a ninth grade student at Maple Point, participating in concert choir, concert and jazz bands, school plays and athletics. A talented French horn player who has been selected for the Bucks County Music Festival for the past three years, Adam would like to pursue a career in music or theater. His award will be used for private instrument lessons. Lynn Roberts is a junior at Neshaminy High School where she is involved in the band and orchestra. She also teaches karate, but her true passion is in the visual arts. Lynn was selected to participate in the Philadelphia Mural Arts program where she has the opportunity to paint alongside professional artists. While Lynn enjoys working in many artistic media, she is particularly interested in ceramics. She plans to use her award to attend classes at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia.
