Sun., Nov. 5, 10:00am-3:00pm — Peace Valley Nature Center’s The Naked Human — A Continuation of the Human Animal Series at 170 N. Chapman Rd., Doylestown. In relation to other animals, we humans have weak bodies, ill-suited for living in most regions of the world. For our species to thrive in colder regions, we needed to invent clothing. The vast majority did so using the skins of other animals. During this workshop, we will work together to turn a raw deer skin into a functional piece of material known as buckskin. This is a messy physically demanding process but the end result is well worth the effort. Buckskin unlike leather will last centuries and is softer and more pliable than chemically tanned skins. We will also be learning how to use hides for various other tasks like cord making, buckets and cooking vessels. Six adult participants per workshop. Tickets are $65 and $50 for members. For info call 215-345-7860 or visit www.peacevalleynaturecenter.org.
