Janet Mintzer, President & CEO of Pearl S. Buck International, was named an Honorary Citizen of Jiangsu Province while attending the Pearl S. Buck Symposium in Zhenjiang, China, last month.
Ms. Mintzer was presented with a certificate, gift, and sash, and the title of “Envoy of People’s Friendship of Jiangsu” by the Vice Director of the Zhenjiang Foreign Affairs Office.
Ms. Mintzer was in Zhenjiang for the Pearl S. Buck Symposium, in which scholars and thought leaders on Pearl Buck have the chance to share their thoughts and papers, and participate in panel discussions and presentations.
While in China, Ms. Mintzer also led the Global Conference of Pearl S. Buck International’s branches and affiliates, which include China, Korea, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
There is a strong and deep-rooted connection between Pearl S. Buck International and the people of Zhenjiang.
Pearl Buck lived in Zhenjiang and considered it her second home.
Ms. Buck was a student and then a teacher at Chongshi Girls’ School there, and Pearl S. Buck International continues to maintain a partnership with the school.
This honor bestowed upon Ms. Mintzer, who has been President & CEO of Pearl S. Buck International for 18 years, recognizes her personal and professional commitment to fostering the bond between Pearl S. Buck International and Zhenjiang.
