Improvements planned at Township’s Municipal Park ‘blue’ playground

Northampton Township and the Miracle League of Northampton Township have embarked on a journey to expand the already popular ‘blue’ playground at the Municipal Park on Hatboro and Bristol Roads in Churchville.

The mission of the Miracle League is to enrich the community by providing education and social development through high quality recreation facilities and programs for individuals with special needs and their families.

One may remember back in April of 2012 when Bucks County residents and surrounding communities celebrated the grand opening of the Miracle League baseball and multi-purpose field at the Northampton Township Municipal Park.

Now the non-profit organization is working once again with the Township to provide a facility that will afford individuals with special needs the opportunity to play on a playground.

Working with Landscape Structures, a playground manufacturing and design company, the Miracle League Board of Directors strategically selected pieces of equipment that will welcome children and families of all abilities to learn, play and grow together.

In addition, new surfacing, fencing and shade structures will enhance the experience.

The cost of the improvements has been estimated at approximately $700,000.

To date the Township applied for and received a $270,500 grant from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Community Conservation Partnership Program, and another $50,000 grant from the Department of Community Economic Development to assist in the funding of this project.

The remainder of the funds will be matched through fundraising efforts.  The Miracle League has raised close to $200,000 so far but needs to continue to raise funds.

In addition to seeking sponsors or donors for the new pieces of equipment, the volunteer board is planning events to raise awareness while having some fun.

A Halloween Bash is planned for Saturday, November 2nd, from 7:00 to 11:00pm at the FUGE in Warminster.

Costumes are encouraged but not required. Pre-paid tickets are $40 per person and includes dinner, dancing and a costume contest.

Tickets can be purchased online at the Miracle League’s website, www.mlnorthampton.com.
