For some, writing comes as a natural talent while for others it is something that must be cultivated and studied.
For Amelia Griggs, it has always been a natural passion which has led her to become a successful self-published author from Warrington.
“I’ve been writing my whole life, I always loved to write,” says Amelia.
Back when she was growing up, writing and art was thought of as more of a hobby than a career, so when Amelia decided to turn her lifelong passion for writing into something physical, she decided to go the self-publishing route.
“My background is actually in computer science,” she said.
This background led her to create a book series of Microsoft Office Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts, paired with instructional videos on her YouTube channel.
Her newest endeavor is an exciting one: a series of
children’s books based on personal memories of cooking and baking with her
mother in the kitchen, creating homemade goodies together.
“My mother and I were always making something homemade and that’s what I based these books around, making it fun and exciting for kids using my love for rhyming.”
Amelia also includes a recipe in the back of her books so parents can recreate the homemade recipes with their own children.
It’s interactive and fun, reading about the excitement of her characters Bella and Mia and their adventures.
In the first book “Silly Willy Apple Cake,” readers join the mother-daughter team in picking apples and creating a delectable apple cake!
Her newest book in this series “Squishy Wishy Meatballs” is now available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble and includes a special Italian meatball recipe.
Coming soon in the series is “Snowflakes with Sugar,” and Amelia has more plans in the works.
“I’m currently working with my illustrator to create a coloring and activity book to go along with the books.”
Amelia comes from a varied background, including IT training and development, and she spent a lot of time freelancing.
She likes to use her passion for teaching and spreading knowledge in all her endeavors, reflected in her children’s series, the Microsoft office series, and her future projects.
Now inspired by her success as a self-published author, Amelia wants to share all she has learned with aspiring authors in an effort to help them accomplish their goals and achieve their dreams.
She is planning on creating a series of books and videos to help others with the self-publishing and marketing process.
One huge benefit of self-publishing is having full control over book design and when the book is released.
“I want to share all the knowledge I’ve acquired through this process with other writers,” Amelia says. “I have so much information that will help others who are considering self-publishing.”
To start off on the self-publishing track, Amelia signed up for a class where she learned about the ins and outs of how to self-publish her books.
“One of the things I learned is to start small and write what you know,” says Amelia. “Your audience has to trust you.”
After years spent writing training manuals, this is how she came to write her Microsoft Office How-To Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts series, and has now expanded into the creative children’s book series.
