MWGC awards six scholarships to local students

The Martha Washington Garden Club is proud to annually offer six scholarships of $2500 each to well-deserving students from the area pursuing careers in agriculture, horticulture, landscape architecture, sustainability, conservation or related subjects.

This scholarship is funded through their annual fundraiser held in January. A second source of scholarship money is the Jane Parr Memorial Fund.

This fund was started in memory of Jane Parr, a long-time, dedicated Garden Club member, by her husband Russell Parr. MWGC is privileged to carry on Jane’s legacy of beautifying and caring for the environment through these deserving students.

The winners this year are:

  • Maeve Kessler (Yardley), currently enrolled at the University of Maryland.
  • Matthew Simms (Newtown), graduating from Notre Dame High School and will attend the University of Scranton.
  • William Krohn (Morrisville), graduating from Holy Ghost Prep and will attend Colgate University.
  • Ashlin Brooks (Perkasie), currently enrolled at Penn State University.
  • Erin Hunter (Yardley), graduating from Pennsbury High School and will attend the University of Massachusetts.
  • Maia Kessler (Yardley), graduating from Pennsbury High School and will attend the University of Maryland.
