Doylestown at Dusk Car Show draws crowds to view 500 vehicles

You could almost say that the 10th Annual Doylestown at Dusk Car Show on Saturday, July 20th, was a “blazing success,” with a heat index over 105 postponing the arrival of the event’s usual happy crowds until after the sun dropped below the tree line and a light breeze graced the evening.

After last year’s heavy rains caused a one-day postponement, the Rotary Club of Doylestown was pleased to see sunshine but accepted the mixed blessing.

“Many owners won’t bring their antiques, classics, customized or luxury vehicles out in the rain,” says Bruce Rutherford, who heads up the Doylestown at Dusk event committee for the Rotary club, “so we are very glad the sun shone.

“At the same time, when temperatures are this extreme, it’s hard on everyone, from entrants to event personnel, to live performers and concessions, to the families and individuals who come to see the cars and enjoy an evening in downtown Doylestown.”

The visiting crowds shared the streets west of Main with nearly 500 vehicles of all makes, vintages and styles.

The car show opened this year with the national anthem sung by vocalist, actress and Doylestown native Jenny Lee Stern.

Bob Kelly, Fox29 “Good Day Philadelphia” Traffic Reporter and TV personality, served as master of ceremonies throughout the event.

Live music was provided by SlideWinder Blues Band and Wineskin.

Car show entry fees and generous sponsors make Doylestown at Dusk a major fundraiser for the Rotary club’s programs and initiatives, including its annual grants to local charities and scholarships for Central Bucks students.

The event raises over $35,000 every year.
