Piazza Nuova Lodge #2665 Annual Scholarship Awards announced

On Tuesday evening May 7th, members, families and friends of the Piazza Nuova Lodge (PNL) of the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, enjoyed a fun evening during its Annual Scholarships Awards Night when graduating students from area high schools and Bucks County Community College (BCCC), were honored in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements.

Funding for the lodge scholarships was provided by the ‘Foundation’ a registered 501(c)3 charitable organization, the philanthropic arm of the PNL.

Earlier in the year the Foundation submitted scholarship applications to area high school counselors and members of Lodge children and grandchildren advising that it was sponsoring scholarships for the year 2019 for high school seniors graduating in June that would attend college in the autumn.

Among other academic criteria factors considered, the PNL 2019 scholarship applicants were asked to write a 500- to 700-word essay as a requirement for participation in the program. Foundation President John Oliano presented the honorees with certificates for outstanding academic achievement, and a total of $10,250 in scholarships awards.

During the evening’s ceremonies 13 high school scholarship honorees were awarded checks and certificates, namely: Anthony Cacciatore, Cave Spring High School, Roanoke, VA; Anthony Cappetta, Notre Dame High School, Lawrenceville, NJ; Kristin Chai, St. Ignatius College Prep, San Francisco, CA; Erin Devine, Villa Joseph Marie High School, Southampton, PA; Kelly Hauch, New Hope-Solebury High School, New Hope; Nicole Hauch, New Hope-Solebury High School, New Hope; Mara Lenti, Council Rock High School North, Newtown; Brett Marino, Council Rock High School South, Holland; Erica Marino, Central Bucks High School East, Doylestown; Cullen Murphy, The Stanwich School, Greenwich, CT; Michelle Pellegrino, Pennsbury High School, Fairless Hills; Juliana Shields, Council Rock High School North, Newtown; and Alaina Tarallo, Pennsbury High School, Fairless Hills.

In addition, three BCCC students were presented with certificates of recognition; Abigail Anton of Perkasie, was the recipient of the Alfred M. Ciccotelli, Senior Memoriam Scholarship for Culinary Arts; Matthew Kemmerer of Perkasie, for the Enrico Fermi Science Scholarship; and Matthew Calderone of Levittown, for the Italian Language Scholarship.

The three BCCC students received financial scholarship awards from the college based on the monies earned from the three endowments that were established at the college by the Lodge several years ago.

The PNL is a nonprofit filial Lodge of the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America.

The Lodge promotes fraternity amongst members and extends that fraternity to the community at large.
